If a certain page on a site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the website visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which may make the visitor leave your website. A potential solution in such a case is a function made available from some website hosting service providers - the ability to set up your own custom error pages that shall have the exact same layout as your Internet site and that could contain any images or text that you'd like based on the specific error. There are 4 popular errors which could occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see a page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a particular page; and 404, if a link which you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these scenarios, visitors will be able to see your custom made content instead of a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You can set up custom error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all cloud hosting
package that we offer, so when you log in to the Hepsia Control Panel and go to the Hosted Domains section, you may click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will show up, you can select the sort of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a typical Apache web server page or a customized one. For the latter option, you have to assign the URL to the page, so if you use custom made pages, you need to upload the files in your hosting account first. One other way is to use an .htaccess file located in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each and every error type. The exact syntax can be found in our Knowledge Base, so that you can use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Incorporating your personal pages for any of the four error types to any site hosted inside a semi-dedicated server
account with us shall be very uncomplicated and shall not take more than a few mouse clicks. Once you upload the files in your account, you can navigate to the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and edit each of the domains and subdomains listed there through an intuitive interface with drop-down navigation. You can choose what page should show up for each and every error type. The options are a standard Apache web server page or a page from our system, and tailor-made pages. If you pick the abovementioned option, you must enter the link to each and every page in your account, then save the change. The link or the type of page that appears when a user encounters an error can be modified anytime. If you are more experienced, you could use an .htaccess file to be able to set customized error pages as well, rather than using our integrated generator tool, and should you select this option, the file has to be placed in the root directory of a given domain or subdomain.
